I am aware of the fact that I am the worst blogger ever; however, I also don't care.
About a month ago, I decided to reread Harry Potter... Again. I could not tell you how many times I have read the series, though I could tell you that in my sophomore year, when we first moved to Heppner (when I was too bitter and angry to talk to anyone from the town), I read the series seven times in about three or so months. Everyone called me the "Harry Potter Girl," and thought I was skipping around in the series because I brought a new book almost every day. I can in fact tell you I read them from all from start to finish in order, 1-7, each 7 times. I would have continued if I had not made friends with my fellow bookworms, who forcibly made my read other fictional novels, which I have loved dearly, but none could possibly compare to my love for Harry Potter.
So, as I read the famous novels once again, I am reminded just how truly amazing they really are! Who would have thought that a story about a scrawny boy whose biggest and best (baddest, perhaps) weapon is a small, frail piece of wood would be so captivating!
Believe it or not, I wasn't always a Harry Potter fan; I refused to read the first novel in the beginning. My older sister was always the smart one, reading everything and anything on which she could get her hands. When she encouraged me to read Harry Potter, I laughed at her... I hated reading, and I wasn't going to waste my time on a book about witchcraft. When hype started about the first movie, I figured I'd be seeing it with my sister, but she said I was not allowed to see it until I read the book. Because I was the stubborn little devil I have always been, I was NOT reading that book and she could not change my mind. My fourth grade teacher, however, could make me do absolutely anything. Mrs. Marquart was one of THE BEST teachers I have ever had, one of the best PEOPLE I have ever MET. She was so enthusiastic and fun (she taught me my multiplication tables! And whenever I think of parallel or perpendicular, I think her hand movements, which were almost a dance and game in one! And I know how to SPELL parallel thanks to her haha - there are two parallel lines in the middle [the L's]! Seriously amazing teacher right here), so when she said we were reading the book in class (meaning not only did I have to read it, I had to like it because she liked it, and I wanted to like everything she liked!), I was more than willing. I always loved reading books in class at that age, mostly because it meant I didn't have to read at home, and this seemed to be the best book ever. Not only did I start reading at home, I ENJOYED it. I was a new person. I continued to read the series throughout my life, and have been a bit of a book worm ever since. Harry Potter changed my life!
So for all of you who haven't read Harry Potter because it's too trendy and you're a rebel, or you're not a follower, you're actually just a moron. Not to mention you're missing out on what will soon be classic literature, read in literary classes around the world in so many languages! Your children and your children's children will ask you about when the books came out, and you won't have anything to tell them. And they just enhance your life! So read them!
For those of you who didn't read them because they are about witchcraft, which is evil, I respect you; however, you are slightly misinformed. Okay, yeah, they're wizards and witches, but the whole point of the series is good vs. evil, and that good will always prevail. It's not like "hey, magic is real, go find it" or satanic or anything. It is pure goodness to the very last word.
NOT TO MENTION, THERE IS NO SMUT.
In the world today, that is a serious feat. J.K. Rowling could have given in to the world like every other author EVER, she could have seen it as a way to get more money, draw more attention and more fans, but she did not. Unlike Stefanie Meyer, she did not sell out. J.K. Rowling stayed true to her characters, to her story line, to her fans - and I don't mean the fools who just watch the movies, I mean the REAL FANS.
(Because if you have not read the books, you do not deserve to see the movies.)
READ. THESE. BOOKS.
If you already have, read them again.
So uh, yeah, I guess I kind of like Harry Potter.
Mischief managed.
